How we collect, use, and protect your personal data. Last updated 5 February 2026.

Introduction

Ganeshotsav Berlin (“we”, “us”) respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal data. This privacy notice explains how we handle your personal data when you visit our website or interact with us, and tells you about your privacy rights and how the law protects you.

1. Who we are

Ganeshotsav Berlin is jointly organised by Marathi Mitra Berlin e.V. (MMB e.V.) and Ramanbaug Yuva Manch Germany e.V. (RYMG e.V.). See the Impressum for full legal entities and addresses. For data protection questions, email team@ganeshotsavberlin.com.

2. What data we collect

  • Contact data — name and email address when you write to us, sign up as a volunteer, or send a press enquiry.
  • Technical data — browser type, device, IP address (via server logs), and interaction data collected via privacy-respecting analytics.
  • Content you submit — anything you write in a form (contact form, volunteer form).

3. How we collect it

Directly, when you fill in a form, email us, or interact with the site. Automatically, through server logs and analytics tools when you browse.

4. How we use it

  • To reply to your enquiry or process your volunteer application.
  • To communicate about the festival if you have asked us to.
  • To improve the website and understand aggregate usage.
  • To comply with legal obligations.

5. Sharing with third parties

We do not sell your personal data. We may share it with service providers that host or run the site (e.g. hosting, analytics) under appropriate data protection terms, and with authorities when legally required.

6. International transfers

Some of our service providers are based outside the European Economic Area. When personal data is transferred internationally, we ensure a similar degree of protection through appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.

7. Data security

We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to prevent your personal data from being accidentally lost, used, or accessed in an unauthorised way, altered, or disclosed.

8. Retention

We keep your personal data only as long as necessary for the purposes we collected it, including any legal, accounting, or reporting requirements. Volunteer applications are typically retained for one festival cycle unless you ask us to delete them earlier.

9. Your rights

Under the GDPR, you have the right to:

  • Request access to your personal data.
  • Request correction of inaccurate data.
  • Request erasure of your data.
  • Object to or request restriction of processing.
  • Request transfer of your data.
  • Withdraw consent at any time where we relied on it.

To exercise any of these, email team@ganeshotsavberlin.com. You also have the right to complain to a supervisory authority (in Germany: the Berlin Beauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit).

10. Cookies

You can set your browser to refuse all or some browser cookies, or to alert you when websites set or access cookies. If you disable cookies, some parts of this site may not function properly.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last updated.
